ODU kicking it off right this year for MLK day of service. Participants made teddy bears for military children on base and no-quilt-blankets for babies at a local women’s center.
Day of Service 2011, as we give back.
Rain, even storm, won’t stop us doing what we’d want.
It’s one raining Saturday morning when we officially had our annual Day of Service at GK Amparo site, Caloocan City.
Well, everything else had gone successful as we were all divided into 4 groups so we can function evenly. Thanks to the committees, to the officials who made everything possible sa kabila nang patuloy na pag-ulan. We’re also looking up to these Amparo Villagers who had just become grateful of our presence at that moment.
They were even considering us as their heroes. Mga bayani, anila.
Pero para sa amin, sila ang mga tunay na bayani. I think these folks are the ones who keep the modern bayanihan going. The fact they’re simply showing to these charitable institutions that they really deserve all the help.
Gawak Kalinga lives on. It’s nice to know that rain or shine, people are more than willing to reach out to others.
UD’s day of service
This past Saturday we had our first day of service! My friends and I spent the afternoon out on the turf making care packages for children with cancer, writing letters to the troops, playing with puppies, making bracelets for the girl scouts foundation and making comfort pillows for hospital patients. It was a gorgeous day and I wouldn’t have wanted to spend my Saturday any other way!
The most successful part of our day was the care package that we made for a child with cancer. We enjoyed decorating a hat, tee shirt, door hanger and notebook all for one special child. This was set up through an organization called Be positive and they set out to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer. We were fortunate enough to meet the founder of the organization and we all were truly touched by his story. His motivation to help those in need is inspiring and it really made us want to help as much as we possibly could. We are now looking forward to participating in a fundraiser they are having on campus. They are going to host a 24 hour dance a thon, and my floor has already decided to make a team!
Also be sure to check out their website and vote for them!! If they win they will be granted 100,000 to help families in need!!
